Our Reason

Jacob “Jake” Dugas was diagnosed with cervical chordoma cancer at the age of 18, resulting in a tumor located in his neck, entwined around his spinal cord. Due to the tumor's complexity, doctors were unable to remove it entirely. Over the next six years, Jacob endured several high-risk surgeries and numerous radiation treatments. His battle ultimately concluded when the cancer metastasized to his lungs, leading to his passing on May 21, 2002.

Jake exhibited remarkable courage throughout his ordeal. Despite living with severe daily pain, he remained dedicated to his greatest passion: fishing.

In addition to his love for fishing, Jake pursued his educational aspirations, earning a bachelor's degree in wildlife and fisheries from Louisiana State University. He was recognized as an award-winning professional fisherman, demonstrating his determination and exceptional talent. Notably, he excelled at the Bass Master Central Open in 2001 and was honored as the Angler of the Year in the Angler’s Choice Circuit that same year.
